Have you ever watched a high jump or even a penalty at football match? What is one common thing both players do? They first move backward before coming forward in full speed. Well, that may seem quite an irrelevant point to discuss when all you are looking for in this article is a way to help you grow your business. What the above players do is what I am referring to as “taking some time off” for a big come back.
Taking some time off from a business cannot be taken lightly or compared with a corporate worker taking time off, because the former has direct impact on the business. However, there still remains the need for one to take time off. Long years of service to your business may end up being disastrous, because the passion you once had for the business may dwindle or you may end up running the business on hormones, not with your heart and mind.
In order to take time off, you need to do some things and ensure everything is in place. First, make a sober decision to take time off your business. Do not do it as if you are hiding yourself or as if you want to surprise your workers; arrange it with them long before time (like one year before or so). Before then, ensure that you let yourself loose and stop being a control freak. In actual sense, what happens when you as the business owner stays on it and directly around it over the years is that your focus shifts from long term goals to short term ones. You start feeling that you are in control and you start dominating over others. This should not be the case. Before taking time off, ensure that you have a strong management team behind you.
Once you have taken time off, take time to ask yourself questions about you, your business and the future of that business. Go for business seminars, read books, intermingle with other business people. By the time you are back, you will have a fresh start, and you will be glad you did it.
